Prayer Request

At my last employer, there was a guy, a real political suck up whom had advanced to senior vice president and was only months older than me.  One day he left his office, told his secretary he was going home and not feeling well.  This I could hear over the partition of my little "office" area.  Then the splat as he hit the floor.  He was dead before he even hit the floor according to the medics - massive brain aneurism.

I had a terrible call on Thursday from one of my oldest friends.  I was chatting with the husband on FaceBook, when the wife called me up on my phone and so I two conversations going.  I thought it funny at the time.  However, for as light as his train of thought was, hers was very troubling.  Then their son hops onto chat with me as well.  Which was odd, this never happens with any of them and me!

I was to learn that my first god-daughter, has developed a brain aneurism - which is leaking.  It is bad enough she lost her job due to the frequency of blacking out episodes.  And she is refusing any surgery.  So much prayer needed.

She was a very successful model - with all the pain and misery which goes with that.

She just turned 37 on Thursday.  So as part of her birthday wishes on FaceBook, I also sent her message with my current phone numbers in case she wanted to talk.  But, she still has not called.

She has always known what is right and what is wrong, she just chooses wrong every time.  And, I would like to see her pull her life back together before it is too late.  With this artery leaking, it is probably not going to be much longer until, like Alan, it ruptures and is all over.

And that will be a very sad day ...

Hard Answers

So last night was a night of prayer.  Prayer that God would let me know what I am supposed to do about Gaelic Girl and my situation.  As I have mentioned in the past, I have a problem letting go of friends, apparently to the point of absurdity.  As last night has shown, GG is completely beyond the pale of reality.

Back home she could have been quietly institutionalized and a proper diagnosis performed.  But, not in America, especially not in Washington State where the rights of the mentally ill are apparently greater than those they victimize.  And I have nothing left.

My ability to hold the course and keep her in the family has reached its end, at least as far as I am concerned.  Heavens I might be the one removed from the family if there is sides taking to be performed!  Sigh ...  No idea how all of this is going to play out today.

I had my friends praying last night with me for wisdom - because I need God's wisdom in this.  When I woke up this morning the only thing I really knew was that I had stayed here too long.  I should have left in 2012 or beginning of 2013 at the latest, so much pain and a major heart attack could have been avoided.  And Sugar Ray's song, Someday, would not be echoing through my mind still.

I hate failure.
I hate losing friends.
I hate what life has done to GG.
But I can not hate what has happened inside of me.
To see in colors and to now understand life for the first time.  A blessing I could never share with GG because there was never any love between us.

So, I look ahead to a continued life alone, hey been there for the past five years!
Currently two friends left.
A small army of prayer warriors behind me.
An unknown future ahead.

And I know that God will continue to lead me, where He wants me, just as he has done for most of my life....

Happy Birthday Daughter

Via the only vehicle you allow me.

Were you to ever visit, call, IMG, TXT, whatever, you would understand there is much to discuss.

No, I doubt you ever will.
But, I always hope for you to do what is right.

Happy Birthday into this next year of your life ...

Babies!

It seems to be that time of year!

One of "my boys" whom is Czech NATO is stationed in North Carolina now and called to say that they had a son born this week!  Very excited father!

Then I talked with one of "my boys" from 1990, actually more of a son, if I had clues as to what our relationship would grow into back then.  His wife is pregnant and his was both surprised, unsure, happy, scared stiff.  LOL!  He will do just fine...

And my official girlfriend came over last night.  I always love seeing her but it sort of broke my heart this time.  She is now eight years old, very possessive of me and when last seen three weeks ago - same as she has always been.  But, now - this tiny little girl has an hour glass figure and is growing breasts at eight years old!  It made me very sad.  End of another childhood.  Sigh, three weeks and all changes.  Now she will throw me away and be chasing after hot guys.  I never was a hot guy, except when I lived one summer in Phoenix ...

Well have to jet and go pick up my grandkids for the day.

Ciao!

Olympics

The Winter Olympics are always so bitter sweet for me.  First, I was badly damaged at 16 in 1971 at the 1972 downhill tryouts and yeah I really thought I had a chance - of course I was stupid back then and it was only sheer male bravado which propelled me to even attempt that downhill run.  Scarey part is, if it had not of been for the actions of the guy I was up against (back in those days downhill was run as a two man competition) - I probably would have at least completed the course!  My how life would have been oh so different!  And then, my first adopted daughter turned out to be extremely athletic.  I put all of the kids into skating classes that first winter (they needed some form of exercise in the winter!) and she was a natural!  By age 11 she was already doing all of the triple jumps and blowing everyone away in competition, she has boxes of trophies and gold medals to show for it.  But, that was all she got was gold medals, never anything else!  As I said, she was a natural.  Then at 12, she just walked away.

I have often, since that day she refused to skate ever again, bemoaned the money sunk into her skating career.  I know I am financially stupid, always have been, but even at the time I was questioning the vast sums it takes to put your little girl on the ice.  No we are not talking parental vanity, she really was talented, but it is not a sport for the faint of heart.  I even at one point was looking into how does the US girls finance their skating and had a chance to meet Ashley Wagner's father, since he had just gotten his daughter into the US program.  He gave me some good ideas on how to start the process of applying.  Kudos to him!

And as daughter and I sat and watched Ashley, her same age, whom she would have been up against for a team slot if she skated for the Americans or against in competition had she of skated for Switzerland.  She was always better than Ashley, that would be others opinions though.  She looked at me and quietly said, "I am sorry, I could have kicked her butt...."

So, it was fun to watch the skating and be amazed by Russia's new talent, but daughter could not have beat her without significantly more expensive training!  Yulia (Julia to the rest of the world!) at 15, is amazing.  And, it was fun to see the return of Evgeni to the men's competition.  I was amazed to hear Scott Hamilton state that Evgeni was probably the best male skater of all time.  I think Scott needs to go back and watch his own performances at Sarajevo and take that into consideration - he was unbeatable.

In past years there was always much ado about Evgeni's long time girl friend, a Russian model, and nothing this time about his life, loves or anything!  Makes you wonder what happened.  Be sad if she walked away, he was a smitten kitten.

And thinking of girl friends, anyone other than me get a snort over how Putin brought some eye candy as his escort?  Had her as part of the Olympic Flame Relay (Alina Kabaeva took gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics in gymnastics) and for the opening ceremonies?  I assume the guy on the other side of her was her brother due to facial features and the fact that she was telling him how to behave.  And then she was gone for the next two days of photos of Putin.  Makes you wonder whom talked to who and is there someone Putin will listen to?  (No knock of Putin here, I have spoken with him three times on adoption related topics, so I do have respect for the man.  He is quite an interesting man.)

But, the opening ceremonies were awesome and interesting to watch and oh so much better than what was done in Salt Lake City (which I mark as a low point in Olympic openings - though Alberville was equally a facepalm...).

So, a thoughtful, enjoyable weekend of viewing the goings on in sports, the pain of coverage being so American centric (there is nothing worse than seeing that someone almost metaled and have no reason as to why, because they were covering the losing American!  My best example will always remain complete ignorance of Biathlon even existing as a sport until only a few Olympics ago!  Really?  If I had known in 1971 guess what I would have gone out for rather than downhill!  Amazing.

Well, my rant for the day - have a good one ...

My Crazy Cousin

One of my cousins, I swear is crazy, in a good way.

He has a little YouTube "channel" devoted to shooting and he has a great deal of fun with it!  When I created my Bigfoot hunting site, he went out with his friends and got a hold of a Bigfoot suit and then had someone dressed as Bigfoot then doing the shooting as well.  I laughed my head off at his antics!

So someone asked him, "How many Twinkies will a .22 bullet go through?"  Actually an intriguing question!

Probably 25 years ago Dutchman and I created a pc based program to figure out just that kind of problem.  But, Lord only know where that disk is in this house!  And Dutchman is out of town as usual.  So, I had to do this in my head.

Now there are plenty of variables involved in figuring out how far, how flat a bullet will travel.  Speed of the bullet, shape of the bullet, length of the barrel, bolt action or semi-automatic rifle, distance from end of rifle to first twinkie.  But no matter how you slice it, a bullet does not travel flat.  First it will rise, then it will drop, it may rise again and then it will drop to the ground.

How long until the bullet hits the ground?  Well if you could do this test you would know: fire a gun and drop a corresponding bullet from the same height as the barrel - both bullets will the hit the ground at the same time, if the barrel is perfectly parallel to the ground.

So, they loaded 40 twinkies into a piece of rain gutter and the twinkie always disappeared at the sixth twinkie no matter what they did!  I expected more like 130 before the disappearance - but that is because I was forgetting one thing about twinkies, they are cream filled!

That cream filling is basically a liquid the bullet has to pass through, but more importantly is the change between the cake texture and cream texture and the angle at which that change occurs!  The bullet was exiting after six twinkies because the cream filling is not symmetrical nor inline with the twinkie!

Silly Kris, you should have thought of that one!  Oh well.  All of the cool prizes go to someone else whom guessed six!

Next up, how many Pabst Blue Ribbon Beers will a .22 go through?

Yes, my cousin is having fun on YouTube and making some money surprisingly as well!

In Passing

This post brings me no joy.

Father married eight times.  Two of his wives have been favorites of my sister and I.  Gwen, whom I showed you a photo of some time back this summer, and Marge, who I really have no good photo's with.

Marge was wife number eight, one of only two father's age (most of them were my age!).  They had just celebrated their second anniversary when father's body gave out on him.

Now she too has passed away.

It is with sadness I say this as I had been working on a biography for her of my father's life - with the help of my aunts, something to give her on what would have been their wedding anniversary.  And I am at a loss for words.

She had been diagnosed with liver cancer back before Christmas, however she had the will and the money to see a long fight through.  I had no question she was going to make it.  My children, whom also knew her and stayed in contact with her are equally stunned.

When last we spoke, at Christmas, she was bright and chipper.  Everyone thought, "All is well."

And so the first death of someone I cared for, with this new nature fully in control.  I barely survived Edvard's death in March - it was only my ability to temporarily shut down that I did make it; I am now without a reaction.  I have no words, no witticisms, nothing with which to deflect this pain.  A dear lady in my life has died and I am left defenseless against emotion.

All prayers appreciated for her families, all of whom need to make their peace with their creator ...

Historical Secrets

It did not take much to establish who his real family was, they actually had set out to find me.  He was believed to have been dead by then, so they were looking for me.  His mother had died and her estate needed settled.  My response was one of overjoy at having found them!  And, since they had loved and cared for their parents, anything of value was theirs.  I only wanted copies of photographs and to learn to know them.

And across the years we have a fairly close relationship.  I am happy.

But, in my readings this week, I suddenly found myself choking on what I was finding!  It was a British book I had picked up, just never read.  It was a hard week, I needed rest and a book would be good - especially one that deals in conspiracy, government cover-ups and of course space aliens!  What more could one ask for relaxation.

I expected humorous readings, something so easy to laugh off that Dutchman and Swede would be jumping up and down to read it next!

Instead, I found my father.

Oh make no mistake, he is whom I found him out to be, there is just a problem with his story - I had assumed a piece of information as to the project he had worked on.  Yeah, I had the designations right, I just did not know there were three V-3 projects.  Father had a great love for rockets, so I had assumed that must have been the V-3 he was on, and he did have extraordinary knowledge of that project.

However, he also had knowledge of another V-3 project, one which probably outside of this British book has not been documented well.

And as the story reads on, places come up which father had a strong knowledge of and I have to admit I wondered at how since I knew he was the Swiss guy and his WWII stations were in the north not central areas.  Then the list of names started ticking off of my sister and I's list - I knew almost all of them.  Some were decades old family friends even!

And I was given reason to now pause.

No wonder my simple questions had caused an NSA uproar, father beyond having been a Paperclip Scientist and US citizen, was involved in some German programs so secret that there is virtually nothing known about their programs even to this day.  The paperwork disappeared, the physical items built can not be found, we are talking Black Box here.  Shut, silent, sealed.

Then I finished the book.  I realized that the man was not a crackpot!  His story all too possible and true - he named names, backed up with copies of records from the Russians: dates, places, even the question of what was going on in America was stressed.  He nibbled the edges, my father had lived it.

I was stunned.  Were my father still alive I would be in Denver right now kicking his butt until I got some truth out of him.  Yeah, I know understand what the Germans had been up to, I understand why they had needed my father's brain so badly, I can even understand how a youth could have been lured into the field of theoretically research on time, gravity and the folding of both of them.  But, like me the author also hit a brick wall at the US shores, all stories dead ended once the US military becomes involved.  Almost all of my father's friends are now dead, the projects' knowledge lost in so far as availability is concerned, end of story.

And I sit here and remember those early years of mine, father's long absences, his letters from locations now I know associated with the US pursuit of what the German's had failed to succeed at.  Then I looked at my work career and I realize now how silently I had been moved around to work on projects far advanced from what father had worked on - yet we shared the same goal in our work, in fact the same project!  And now I realize at how the bean counters in charge of the black box have failed - they observed the trick of physic we used, but still do not understand that this is a side effect - there is much more involved then they allow for in science.

I knew at the time this was a side effect, but none of us understood - of what?

I am stunned.  The potential of what we did could change aerodynamics for real, not as a magic trick because of the side effect we utilized buy on a larger scale - the creation of energy for transportation.  How we failed to even understand what we were doing amazes me ...

Digging In Historical Secrets

My adventure to find out whom my father really was/is began in 1984.  I was moving and had some old boxes I had never been through and honestly I thought of just throwing them await.  A letter fell out of the bottom of one of them and it was from my father's mother.  I was stunned.  She was dead, how could she have written?  Then I saw that it was dated 1968, it was a birthday card for my 13th birthday and my father had thrown it away, but it seems mother had saved it secretly, she just never thought I would find it.

I wrote a letter to my unknown grandmother, and nothing ...
So, I talked with my sister and we wrote out everything we knew about our father, every story, every piece of a comment we could remember.  And and then I set out to sequence and locate the history behind those stories.
I filed with the US Immigration and Naturalization Service for a copy of father's original paperwork.
I wrote the Red Cross in Germany, asking for their help and verifying his stories about being from what is now Poland.
I wrote the Canadian and British War Time Archivists for copies of manifests for the camp father had said he was held in after the war.

It was all I could do, the internet did not exist as a tool to search for such information back then.  And, I waited.

The US Immigration and Naturalization Service responded almost instantly with a letter refusing me access to his paperwork and suggesting that any further attempts would result in my US citizenship being revoked.

For one and a half years my phone was tapped, my mail searched, we found a listening device had been drilled into the side of my new house!  A major storm had ripped off the bad job of covering it up.

I went to the police and the Postal Inspector, showed them what I had and they both commented I had apparently pissed off someone in spy land.

I received calls from both of my parents, they had been "visited" and interviewed by the US NSA, first I had ever heard of them!  Mother thought it funny, father was furious.

The Canadians and British politely declined to provide the requested information, but did offer to allow me to search their records personally after 20 more years had passed.

The Red Cross provided me with all I needed to know that father was not from what is now Poland.

My letter to my grandmother was returned; no such person or address.

I received a letter from the Swiss government offering  to meet with me, as they too had a strong interest in finding my father.  And, they learned that one how?

I sat and review what I knew: father was not whom he claimed to be, the Swiss tale appeared to be a dead end and something in the spy community had been awakened by simple questions.

My conclusion?  Father was a Russian mole - and I became very quiet on the subject.

But, there was a problem with the Swiss dead end, I had a picture of his sister, and she was a dead ringer for my sister facially.  Interesting.

Wounded and Thinking

I have to admit that I am at best not in a writing mood today.  Last night was ugly.  I am not saddened by what was said, how it was said or why it was said.  I knew long ago this was coming.  The rational on the part of Gaelic Girl could just as easily have been "your nose is on crooked", thus excusing her for giving me both barrels of her venom.  Instead I am apparently a lying oaf, wrong at every turn.  Does not matter what the truth was, does not matter my youngest daughter could backup every defense I had - GG was right and I am always wrong.  Again.  I fear that her mental health has again slipped into the realm of make believe.  And it saddens me greatly because she has been a friend for most of my life and I do care.

So, as I lay in bed last night, I thought on how haphazard life is.  When things should have been going well, everything is turned upside down.  When all things in are in God's hands - why would evil reign so supremely in my life?  What is left of my physical heart is in no condition to handle this level of stress (nitro is my best friend) and my emotional heart is still too young to try and understand what is going on.  Yet, all is what it is ...

1 Timothy 6:17-21

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.
Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.
In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.

Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to your care. Turn away from godless chatter and the opposing ideas of what is falsely called knowledge,
which some have professed and in so doing have departed from the faith.

Grace be with you all.

As I sat here this morning looking blankly at my computer screen, I have tried to think what to write.  And I thought on what I wrote above, then thought on the ending to the book of 1 Timothy.  Paul was wrapping up an instruction filled letter to Timothy.  All was not well in Timothy's life nor ministry, and Paul was encouraging him.  Then I started seeing how my life at this time mirrors what Paul is saying:

A person, during the first century AD, would have been considered rich if they had a change of clothes and knew where their next meal was coming from.  Times where hard but if you had those two things, you were doing okay.

And Paul says to acknowledge what God has given you.  We are those rich people.  God has given me much.  For now a roof over my head, food and clothing to stay warm with.  He has also given me four children and three grandchildren whom rule my time and heart.  And I do have a friend I can trust.  I enjoy these gifts of His.

Yes, enjoyment.  Paul even says to enjoy what God has given you - however what is lost in our culture is verse 18: to share what God has given you.  We are very good at using up wastefully what God has given, but actually sharing and helping someone else?  No, we do not do very well.  It is the left overs we can no longer use we want to share!

I remember in my last church that we had a problem with people donating frozen, used tea bags to be sent to our missionaries in the field.  Yeah, used tea bags.  Honestly, how pathetic is that as a statement of the bounty of God in our lives?  The best for me, the rest for God's use ...

Going with the idea of sharing what we have, comes the idea that we are to be responsible with the resources we have been given.  EVERYTHING, is the understanding as to what is God's in our lives - EVERYTHING!  Cash, cars, things, happiness - EVERYTHING - but there is also our time and our friendships and our relationships.  EVERYTHING is a tool, to be used as a witness for God in another's life.

We are to guard what has been given to us ...  (I think I have not done well in this area in my earlier years, sigh!)  Escaping from the obvious thought of things, I want to think on this in terms as God's testimony, the testimony of the Saints and even my own testimony.  All of these are given to us and needed to be guarded as well - in deed and in with our mouths!

Further, we are given Faith, it is what allowed us to see and understand God's leading and what brought us to salvation.  It is what has allowed us to learn and to grow, to help us ferret out truth when we are confused.  It is the evidence of the Holy Spirit in our life.  And we totally and completely have the ability to not only strangle it but to outright kill it in our lives.  How?

Believe it or not, through the acquisition of knowledge.  Now there is nothing wrong with knowledge but it does lead away from Faith.

So many I have known through the years lost their faith in Bible School or Seminary, that I finally had to come up with the idea that most people are educated beyond their abilities.  Why would where you should expect to find truth and learning, that you need to strengthen your faith, you would instead lose your faith?

Because of conflicting ideas, so many conflicting ideas that you are eventually forced to throw up your hands and say, "Enough!  It is all a faery tale!  And I now have proof!"  Well, no you don't, but you just discovered how Satan has thrown so much dust up in the air that your Faith has ended and you join the ranks of lost humanity no longer looking for nor believing in that awesome all powerful God.

And yeah, guarding your mouth, I have not done too well with that either.  Often I think out loud and it has repercussions on me and those around me.  I might wonder at something and people take that statement as being real - it was just me trying to work out something - trying to figure out how does God get from point A to point B.  I like knowing, I like observing, I like being surprised by Him and I marvel at how He always finds a way I never could have seen coming!  I love it, but it damages people around me it seems.  A lesson I learned this year.

Last week, I was worried because I could see that God was going to move in my life.  Saturday I knew that whatever it was, God would make it all work out and He gave me peace.  Last night was pretty ugly.  Today, typing this, that peace has returned.  Yeah, I expected to be homeless back in spring but things settled down with that last major heart attack and now all is out of control again.

It will be amazing to see how God brings me through this into the next year ...  So much more I would be tempted to say, at my wonderment as to what God is doing but as I just stated above, perhaps it is best to not wonder out loud.  Sigh .,.

Christmas Gifts

Every year I promise myself I will do paintings for those I give presents to and every year I fail.  Oh, I have given some paintings out as presents, just not to everyone on my list - which would be a real joy for me (but about 5x more expensive to mail!).  So, another year of failure.

I have been fighting to even have three hours in the past month to work on this year's Christmas card!  Last night, I finally got those three hours and about 90% of the layout is now complete.  This year's image is of the Baptist Church in South Fork, Colorado.  It is a very pretty exterior, clean lines with just a hint of southwestern flavor.  I am making it with a winter scene to make it more seasonal.

I was down that way in 2005 with my kids.  The Lord had laid on my heart that this was the last year we would be together, so we traveled to Colorado and each of the kids got to try new experiences - horseback riding, packing, fly fishing for trout, sneaking through the woods looking for bears - you know all of the fun things of the youthful years.  And then there was South Fork.  One decent restaurant and Swiss at that (the owner came out when he heard someone ordering in correct German for his dishes, such fun)!  A grocery store and a church, well and the little strip mall full of tourist tee shirts.  So, I snapped some pictures of the church, a rock, back side of a moose, yeah not exactly a mecca for photography.

And I was glad I had heeded that warning because within months my eldest daughter would be gone in a spat over whether or not a 17 year old should even be around a 23 year old male.  It was the last of the family outings, well other than the move here.  And I should add that my first son-in-law has done well by me and my eldest daughter, and I have told him that - so he is not so afraid of me any longer.  LOL!

Well, time to mosey and see if I can get that drawing complete so I can start painting tomorrow!

The Cold

We are experiencing a bit of a cold snap, the coldest weather in several years, for this time of year.  Usually we do not get treated to 27 degree (-3C) weather until February!

So, for the next week the high is predicted to be 33 degrees and the lowest low of about 21 at this point.

We even had snow here at my house yesterday!  it was not much, just enough to cover my bbq on the back deck.

My sister whom insists on living in Minneapolis and then complains about the weather constantly (it is too hot, it is too cold, it is too humid, help I am buried in the in the snow - send sled dogs!) decided to put up a festive trellis in front of her house for Christmas.  Apparently it took a sledgehammer for her to drive the trellis into the ground, it was so frozen solid.  I was at the doctors when she texted me that one - he was laughing with me and asked why she did not use a portable drill.  Smart doctor, eh?

I was laughing at that one, so the doctor explained that two years ago his daughter decided on an outdoor winter wedding and that was how he got stands holding the flower pots into the ground.  I looked at him ....  He clicked his tongue, "Yeah, well, never could say no to that one ... "  Then we both laughed.  Youngest daughters probably are special, well I think each of mine are special - at least to me.  But, if my youngest wants an outdoor winter wedding, it had better be in Hawaii or similar!

Yeah, I just can not take the cold now.  I used to relish cold.  The lower the temperatures fell, the happier I was.  I have photos of me in Alaska a few years back, -30 F with my shirt sleeves rolled up!  Yeah, everywhere I went people were dressed in their snow bunny suits and heavy down parkas, and there was I with no coat, no long johns and just happy.  They thought I was insane, but just as I commented in Russia more than once on this subject during my winter trips there (-40 F in Siberia!), maybe you need to move where it is warmer if you have no tolerance for the cold!  But, this winter the cold is affecting me.

I do not know if it is the heart drugs doing this to me but the cold just seems to eat through to my old bone breaks and scar tissue.  I just ache all over!  Were it not for the kids being here I would consider moving to Tucson or further south into Mexico!  Conversely, I was so hot during the summer that I was dying during August and the 75 degree weather!  I was sitting in front of a 30 inch fan, set in front of a portable air conditioner, stripped down, wind blowing on me at high and drinking water like there was no tomorrow.  Everyone else was covering themselves in blankets if they were in the same room with me!

Well time to go throw more bread in the toaster and stand as close as I can get ...

Response to: A call for massive ‘Reformation’ – before it is too late.

I have no knowledge whom Andrew Strom is and it really does not matter one way or another, someone needs to reply to his list of problems within the Church, however, he shows he is a part of the problem as well - a product of the Western (American) Church and its apostate theology ...  So, italicized are his words, non-italicized are mine:

It is a sad fact that today’s church is deceiving itself in some very crucial areas. Below are some plain facts (-absolutely true) that may shock a few people:
1. “Ask Jesus into our heart” is not in the Bible. Neither is “Give your heart to the Lord”, or repeating a “sinner’s prayer”. These practices do not exist in Scripture at all. The subject of salvation is the most important subject in the Bible and we are being lied to about it. These doctrines are a total fabrication. They were invented to make salvation “quick and convenient”. Many church members today who are relying on these things are clearly not ‘saved’ at all.
(It is true, however, what has become institutionalized is the "prayer of faith"/"confession"/whatever your group calls it.  There are no magic words in Christianity, but there is the requirement for the acknowledgement of your own unworthiness before God and the need/recognition of Jesus' payment made on your behalf.  This is the most common error I run into in America, that you are "saved" by "the prayer" rather than by a changed heart and life!)

2. Church buildings do not exist in the Bible. They were invented around 200-300 AD, when the church was in serious decline. Only a backslidden church could fall so far away from the simplicity of the early church. Church buildings are anti-New Testament, and bring with them a host of problems and traditions. It was basically when the church fell into the hands of Rome that this concept of the “cathedral” really took over. And we are still spending millions on these monuments today.
(Not entirely true, here Strom forgets the writings of the Apostle John's disciples whom carried him from place to place, church to church, throughout Galatia.  Paul wrote concerning the running of the church of both Ephesus and Corinth.  There may have been some home churches but in Ephesus we have the building itself John and Timothy shepherded!  The remains of the church Lazarus shepherded on Crete and the second century Basilica of Mary, the largest church ever constructed until the Romans took everything over.  I imagine if I reread my archaeology works for a few hours I could find other first or second century churches we have found through digging. )

3. The “one pastor runs everything” model is totally unscriptural. Far from running everything, in the book of Acts we find the word “pastor” NOT EVEN USED ONCE. (-The early church did have strong leaders and elders. But it was never a “one man band” like we see today. And never was it so “controlling” either).
(Again, we have to remember James owned the Jerusalem church, Paul claimed primo rights to all the churches he established, Timothy was told to take the reins of Ephesus, John owned the Galatian churches at the end of the first century.  Call that position what you will, but it did exist, as did the concept of Bishop. )

4. “Tithing” is not a New Testament practice at all. And it is being shamefully abused by today’s preachers. In the New Testament we are told to give cheerfully – whatever we purpose in our hearts to give. Telling people that they MUST give 10% to the church or they are “robbing God” is totally sick – and a money-grubbing way of twisting Scripture. There is no evidence that the apostles EVER preached ‘tithing’ to New Testament believers. It was clearly regarded as an Old Testament practice.
(And now we run smack into the misnomer that somehow Old Testament is Jewish and New Testament is Christian! Nothing could be any further from the truth!  Both are Jewish - however, the positional opportunity was extended to the gentile believers to come into salvation through Jesus (just the same as the Jew!).  There is no such thing as a "tithe" to the church any longer, however, ALL you have is expected of you by God!   It is the Western (American) money grubbing belief system by which God requires nothing or little of you!  If you can not give ALL you have to God, then you need to rethink your theology!  Modern money grubbing apologists such as the radio "Christian" financial advisers are more interested in not trusting God than living a Scriptural life.  By the way, the Jewish tithe was 33% when you include all of the fees and charges for and by the Synagog.  Sorry Dave, God wants everything you have, He will curse you with what you do not willingly give ... )

5. The words “prosper” or ‘prosperity’ were NEVER used by Jesus at all – and only exist a couple of times in the entire New Testament. Yet greedy preachers have built whole kingdoms upon them. The words – “sell what you have and give to the poor” and “deceitfulness of riches” and “you cannot serve God and mammon” and “woe to you that are rich” were DEFINITELY used by Jesus and the apostles. But we don’t hear these things preached too much, do we?
(Here I agree with Strom, the entire concept of the prosperity paganism, has nothing to do with Christianity - it is a lie as old as gnosticism and almost eclipsed The Way, the original name of Christianity.  Equally God is quite expressive concerning debt and getting out of it - period.  And so I now wonder what his point was above about giving, unless it is just that he does not want to give to support the local church?  But, even in the first century the concept of giving to the "store house" was well known.)

6. There were no Bible Colleges, Seminaries or degrees in the New Testament. The only people who seemed to have “Bible Schools” were the Scribes and Pharisees! The apostles were simple fishermen and tax collectors. It is likely that a number of them could not even read or write. What was their “qualification” for being in the ministry? Simply that they had SPENT A LOT OF TIME WITH JESUS. The fact that people expect a “professional clergy” today with degrees from Bible College has helped to make the church sicker and more unscriptural than ever. Simple humble people with a calling from God often cannot get to minister because they do not have a “piece of paper” to make them ‘qualified’. -Yet another disaster for the church.
(Partially wrong.  First off, Jews were amongst the best educated cultures on earth in the first century!  Both boys and girls were taught reading and writing, in the synagog.  We know this from the Synagog of Gamla.  Jesus taught the Apostles as well as the 120 disciples whom were with him.  These went on to found their own itinerant schools to teach about Jesus.  We have ample proof of this through the writings of the early church fathers.  No there were no degrees, there was only the proof of your work and for some accolades by those whom were known and respected.  It is a remnant of Catholicism that you have to go to school, get a degree, to share the secret knowledge, controlled by the Catholic Church.  Nothing angers me more than someone educated above their abilities, pulling rank with their degrees, when they are dead wrong...  And yes, I have 12 years and refused my degree - I believe in what Paul wrote - if I can not walk the talk, don't listen.)

7. There is almost no evidence whatsoever that the early church had their “main meeting” on a Sunday. They gathered together ‘from house to house’ virtually every day! There were no church buildings. They did not dress up and “go to church”. There were no denominations. There were no separate groups with different ‘labels’. They lived their lives together – all the Christians in the local area. Love and fellowship and ‘koinonia’ were as natural to them as breathing. And the apostles in Jerusalem preached every day at huge open-air gatherings. -Not “hidden away” inside four walls. This was truly a “street church” in every way.
(Here a knowledge of Biblical times comes in handy.  We have already covered the concept of church.  People of "The Way", had the ability to meet anytime they wanted except on Saturday because the Jews used the Synagogs then, and the early Christian leaders taught in the Synagogs.  Later this was to change and the now labelled "Christian" sect were thrown out of Judaism.  Some bought their old Synagogs, adding Christian symbolism as early as 70 ad.  In Greece, Galatia and Rome, yes, they started in the streets, the forums and meeting halls - as well as, homes.)

8. The idea that you can replace the moving of the Holy Spirit with programs, programs and more programs just shows how low we have sunk. Man-made programs are everywhere today. The early church had much more of God and much less of ‘man’.
(Okay, Amen!  Our churches are sick, driven by programs, abandoned by God - long ago.  The Holy Spirit's ministry have been replaced by pragmatic business managers, power is political - not God given and the church has reaped the whirlwind for this lack of faith and false testimony.)

9. We preach a ‘humanistic’ Jesus today. -A Jesus who exists mainly for our own “happiness”. A Santa Claus who wants to rain down continual blessings upon us. A God of grace and mercy without judgement, righteousness or truth. Our gross misrepresentation of who Jesus really is, is one of the most serious offenses of the modern church. Today’s church seems to worship a “plastic” Jesus – one that she has made in her own image. What an offense to God.
(Yup again, but let me drive home the point, in case I am misunderstanding his viewpoint here.  Assuming you are a Christian: when you look to see God, you are going to see Jesus.  When God looks like you, it not you and your sin he gazes upon - it is Jesus He sees.  You can not see God in any perspective and you are covered by Jesus blood, dripping with it, hence why God sees His son.  God is a fearful and angry God, if you are not His - that means He will abandon you to torment and destruction under Satan's care if you really want to live in his world.  Conversely, you want to be covered by Jesus' blood and live in that world as well - welcome to utter destruction as you are lulled to sleep by Satans' many blessings to keep you from  seeing or hearing Jesus.)

A lot of preachers are well aware that there is something very wrong with the church today. They know there is little ‘fear of the Lord’. They know there is no deep repentance or deep moving of the Holy Spirit. They know that it is just the same old “game” being played every week. A lot of them are very aware of this. But they will not do anything about it. They will not rock the boat. And they will “squash” anyone who comes along trying to do something. They do not want a real “shaking”. There is too much to lose. They have their careers and their little ‘kingdoms’ at stake. This is the real truth of the matter. This is where the rubber truly meets the road.
(Remember that fear of the Lord is the BEGINNING of wisdom, not the completion of it!  And yes, the modern church has been compromised by the lure of financial wealth and steady incomes.  When we put money before God, we lose, not God.)

That is why God is about to bring “Great Reformation”. He will not put up with these ‘hirelings’ any longer. He will not have them as leaders over His people. A lot of them are about to “lose their heads”. They will never lead God’s people again.
This is what true ‘Reformation’ is all about. It is the process of replacing the old leadership and the old lies. -It is David taking over from ‘Saul’.
There is a ‘New Wineskin’ coming. In fact it is upon us. There is a new leadership arising – many of them trained in the ‘wilderness’ for such a time as this. The hour is now here. LET THE NEW LEADERS ARISE! The sad fact is that today’s church has sunk so low that it is almost a matter of people needing to be RESCUED OUT OF HER. I never thought I would say something as radical as that, but it is the truth.
(Nope, God is not going to bring us a reformation as long as we lack men with humble hearts, men intent upon their agendas rather than laying down a foundation of truth from God.  We are surrounded by a hurting world filled with people betrayed by those they should have respected, a church whom could not and would not respond.  If you want to lay it all out there - the MEN of this generation have walked away from God given roles and responsibilities and until WE reclaim that - we never will have anything other than the chaos we deserve...  And yes, I dearly pray for revival, but it will only be when God moves that it will occur.)

Much of the church is living a lie. Many inside her are told continuously that they are “OK” – that they are saved and headed for heaven. Nothing could be further from the truth. Multitudes of them are headed directly for hell. The systemized LYING that is going on has deceived the leaders and the people alike. It is the blind leading the blind. We need to contend for these people – desperately. Much of the church is “lost”. They are mired in deception – an entire system of deception.
Kindest regards in Christ,
Andrew Strom

(Personal Theology is important, the contents of your theology is important, it must be based upon the Bible and not man's opinions.  You must live it!  Men you are judged and God calls you account both now and in eternity.  So, whatcha gona do?

Same old Same is not going to work this time, unless Hell is actually your desired destination..... )

Antiquing

So, the Philippines are being trashed by one of the biggest storms ever on record and Kris does an antique show.  Seems trivial and given the lack of news on American news, I have no clue as to real news involving the typhoon!  Yeah, I can tell you how many breaths any player took during  the latest football game but real news - well just no time for that when football players are breathing!

The show was heavily attended on Saturday, alas the show was four days long however!  But, it is was a good show for me and I sold or traded away about one third of what I had brought - so no complaints from me.

The customers were interesting however.  A tremendous amount of identity challenged came.  It was a bit weird in fact.  My mother, whom I was there to help, thankfully was blissfully ignorant - otherwise her mouth would have been intolerable!  Yeah, she was in fine form and bad mouthing most and borderline out of control through the three days of the show.  Only one nitro to get me through the first day though!

I was torn how to react when a group of ladies came through dressed in 1870's style bustle dresses.  One of them was a guy.  I just ignore such specticals but I had to wonder at why he would want to dress as a woman of 140 years ago.  I mean it is not as if that style of clothing was comfortable in the least.

But the coolest part was cotton-candy girl was there, with her two daughters and she jumped me in a huge bear hug.  Now she is one of my special girls, was so 11 years ago when she was in high school, still is.  I found the rebirth of my emotion for a daughter!  Dead for over a year and yet apparently still there when I am not watchful!  I told her she was loved and she broke down into tears.  No idea what all is going on inside her but I guess that was something she needed to hear - even from a old German.  Since last I wrote of her, she and her husband have bought a house, renovated it and started going to a small church near the home.  Very cool.  I am very happy for the both of them.  That truly was the highlight of the weekend for me!

So got rid of a ton of stuff, bought a bit - some Christmas presents, a few coins for me, some things in trade I can use at my next show.

Very long, very tiring, and very stressful four days.  So terribly glad it is over!

Four Years Old

My grandson is four years old and he just loves to talk to grandpa  Unfortunately, I am clueless as to what he is talking about most of the time!

Last week he was telling me about Obla Wobey, someone his father knew.  Well, they live in housing project so it could be some middle eastern name?  Then he tells me that Obla Wobey has four small ships and fights too much.  So now I am struggling with the idea that if this guy has four boats he probably does not qualify for the project.  So I try to ferret out about the boats and what they are used for, but he just gets frustrated that I can not call them small ships.

Well, another tact perhaps? Is he a wrestler?  No, fighter.  Is he on TV, yes.  Well what does he do?  He fights with his friends.  Well, why would he fight with his friends?  Do they not get along?  No, they are all fighting together against the bad man.  Okay, movie!

Now, which movie?  So guessing my way across a 15 mile drive to my grand-daughter's school to pick her up and I discover we are talking about Obi Wan Kenobi from Star Wars!  So small ships were light sabers!  I laughed and laughed and laughed!

Then yesterday the power company was replacing the old aluminum power wires to the house (I have no idea why they used aluminum in the first place!), so power was out for six hours.  Which lead to one of most hysterical conversations ever!

Somehow, he equated the power being turned back on with people with big butts dying.  First, it was the dog was going to die, then his aunt was going to fry, then it was me!  I almost had to park I was crying so hard from laughing! And as with any four year old he was deadpan serious and could not understand what was so funny - and couldn't I just lose my big butt?

Oh gees, I am tearing up I am laughing so hard!

Holiday Planning

Ah!  Holidays are creeping up on me!  What to do?  What to do!

I have one birthday left before the end of the year, oldest grand-daughter.  No clue what to give a 6 year old girl.  With mine it was easy, they loved Polly Pockets anything.  But I have not seen Polly Pockets in years.  She likes Tinker Bell, so probably some thing with Tinker Bell on it.  Sigh, I hate giving any money to the Disney evil empire.  Sigh.

Then it will be Thanksgiving and I have no clue what to do this year.  I would just as soon and take everyone out but that would be more money than I have thanks to the IRS and my local emergency room bill (I think I will have both of them paid off in 15 more months!).  Do I do a turkey or a fennel stuffed pork tenderloin, I know I would choose pork but if the kids come, they will want turkey with all of the fixings.  And no idea which of the kids will come.  Eldest wants to do her own thing with her kids, next oldest might do the same, I expect youngest daughter to be here and son, well, he is usually at his girlfriends.

And Christmas, what ever to do about that one!  Maybe it is just too far away to worry about as of yet....

So as I close this out on Halloween 2013 - hope you are having a hauntingly good time ....

Pirate Radio

I noted last week that amongst my lost posts was the movie review for Pirate Radio, the short of it: skip this work of fiction - reality was far more exciting and a whole lot less Haute Culture-ish.  But, that is not what this post is about, even though it is entitled as such.

It was fall 1964, a lanky 5'6" German was removed from his life with his Danish great-uncle on a dairy to a small town on the French, Lux, Flemish borders.  My father had worked his way out of weapons design to implementation, hence our relocation.  For me it was death.  I was 10, on the eve of my teen years, many would say I had already been there for months, if not a year.  I did not speak French, I spoke Yiddish, German and English.  I had nothing in common with anyone in my new village.  Most were laborers for the national train network; anyone with an artist bent or dairy background was not going to fit in - and my parents could not understand my "problems".

My first job was to crawl into the third floor rafters of our 1700's home and string 1.5 miles of copper wire (liberated from the the local NATO base trash) then attach this to my radio.  It kept me from my family, it hid me, it gave me safety in the darkness of the roof.  No fights up there, but once back out, everyone was in my face, no one understood.

But on my shortwave radio, there were those whom did, the disc jockeys of 199, on the medium wave band.  Faceless, but they understood teenagers, they understood music, they understood who and where I was.  They became my family, since I had been forcibly removed my mine to even be here.  They gave comfort, they gave advice, they were transparent adults - talking about life, love and the universe.  It made sense.  It was all I had.

Radio Caroline was a fishing trawler anchored off the Manx coast.  Outfitted with a127' antenna array, it primarily broadcast to southern England but by spill over, those of us with a good radio and antenna matrix, could get it as well.  I listened to them loyally from start up through the wave-length wars with the British Government, numerous winter storms, their relocation to off the Dutch coast and initial shutdown by Dutch bankers for non-payment for their equipment.  Unfortunately, their restart would come after I was now relocated to utter death as a human in the swamps of South Carolina in 1969.  But my shortwave continued to keep me occupied.  And, Caroline was never the same.

As I watched the film last week, I saw that the movie had nothing to offer me - I had lived that history, I knew it by heart.  I had loved Radio Caroline, I knew their ship names, the DJ's, their history, every one of the jingles - including those they did not include in the movie.  Things which I can never lose as long as my brain still functions.  So, the film goes away, the memories stay...

And as I remembered those years, I continued even further back in my mind and considered my nature.  Was I ever normal?  Had I been broken by something but once was normal?  Was I healing now or was this truly a gift of God?  Could I remember, now as an adult, and review my early years?  And the answer surprised me.

How To Alienate People

Over the weekend, I had a family event to attend and you just simply have to enjoy a good train wreck when they occur.  Unflrtunately, this was pseudo-family, indeed - people I pray for often, people I care about.  And to see the wreck coming, to not be able to stop it, to see the damage and to know their pain.  Not good - the real reason I had to get away from the party ...

Oldest daughter planned an event, a get together of her friends, her family, what of her husband's family had come in from Alaska, New York and other various travels.  So, a great many tired, prickly adults and a whole lot of children.

So, I am talking with my son-in-law's oldest sister, just in from a moose hunt in Alaska, skunked but hey, just the hunt is worth it!  We had a good talk.  From what I know of her, she is a bit of a snob, rich, nothing is too good for her children, she lives in the right place, drives the right car, wears the right clothing, sends her two girls to the right private schools.  She has it all and yet even she knows that she really has nothing - but no idea as to why that is true.  It was plain she is uncomfortable being around her family, whom she shares no common theme with - and it stings her.

Enter her mother, whom I know she loves but has no way to express it - they are such different people:

Mom: Is that a natural wave in your hair or did you curl it?

Daughter: Yes, natural ... ?

Mom: Interesting, I have the exact same wave in my hair ...

(Daughter gets a look of hope in her eyes and starts to smile)

... when it is wet from the shower and before I make my hair presentable for the day.

(Daughter now has a look of horror at what she just heard!)

... So at least you have something in common with me.  I am glad that is the only thing we share.

(Daughter runs away in tears.)

Mom: Now, what on earth got into her ...?

I was so tempted to tell her that she just completely and totally dished her daughter - again!, whom wants so desperately to know you, and you just told her that she is not good enough!

Sigh.....

Much of my son-in-law's family is this way.  Yeah, I may complain about my dysfunctional family, but his is pathologically far more so!  Except, in his family, I would be willing to bet that there actually is some love in there for one another.

As for the sister she will now probably hide for the next six months or and then try again.  The mother will continue to be oblivious and find another opportunity to insult her daughter, just as she has been for the majority of her life.

For you, just an example of what James calls the most dangerous weapon in the world (chapter 3:5 others perhaps?).

Cleaning

Somehow, I have gotten suckered into doing a major fall cleaning.  Although it seems to be more a matter of throwing stuff away than actually cleaning.

Because no one actually puts things away in this house, stuff just get thrown somewhere, anywhere, guaranteed to be not where it belongs.  So last year I began the task of just trying to sort the mess out.  Stuff that goes to the sunporch, goes there, perhaps not where it belongs, but closer than where it was.  Same for everything.

Now that I have finally gotten some separation, I started sorting everything that is alike, into piles of the same stuff.  So suddenly, instead of half a box of baking soda, I find I have five boxes, three of which are partially used.  Same goes for everything!  The worst is sandwich bags - eleven partially used boxes!

So, trying to now consolidate alike items into fewer containers and then i started noticing expiration dates!  Yeah, i found a brownie mix which dated back to when I bought this house!  It never got used because it never was put where it belonged in the first place!  So, two thirty gallons trash bags of severely out of date food items and the shelves are now starting to look bare!

I am still far from done, but it is a good start.  Now I wonder if I can get my daughters whom moved out to pick up the last of their items?

And the same is true of my mind as well.  As I am working on my book (now at chapter 5) I am finding quite a bit of baggage I have been carrying all of these years.  It surprised to me to learn how angry I still am at the US Army for what they did to me.  It angered me at how easily they had played me.  It made me reconsider quite a bit about my life - how much good I did miss because I was stupid and how much evil I was forced through because I was equally stupid in that area as well!  They were the adults and knew exactly what they were doing.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrr!  As one of my daughters would say.

But, that is all water long gone under the bridge.  Situations where God, as the final judge, gets to punish those whom preyed upon innocence for their own gain.  Of course, that innocence was what allowed me to come to God as well, because I was stupid and really needed Him to pull me from the fire I suddenly found myself in.  Yeah, He did, in ways I could never have foreseen at the time.

Now how to do the same in my little book ... ?

Confirming A Problem

It was 2005, I was just getting into blogging, my 17 year old daughter had gone crazy and run away from home.  I was despondent, I had absolutely no clue what to do.  It was pathetic.  In desperation I turned to the internet and started just typing keywords until something popped up, I would then cruise through thousands of sites, looking for something which would help me with my daughter.  That was how I met Miss Manners.

Different parts of the world, different backgrounds, different situations, but I have always assumed that all people are the same both today and across time.  And she shared with me ideas on how to work with my oldest daughter to resolve the issues between us.  No, I was skeptical of her advice, but I did as told the first time I had a chance - on her 18th birthday.  And my daughter started to turn around quite abruptly!  She is now someone I count on heavily - we are if nothing else, extremely good friends, which I think is how adult children should be.  Parent and child, yet equal in each other's sight.  Yeah, most of my friends are a little more controlling than me and expect their adult children to still be children ... okay ... I disagree ...

What my now friend Miss Manner's had explained to me was the psychology of girls.  In the years since, I have observed her knowledge and descriptions to have been quite accurate.  And I have seen in this culture a greater and greater disconnect between men and their daughters.  To the extent now I wonder exactly what did happen masculinity?!?

Sunday, as I walked in to my Church's foyer, one of the younger men cornered me to ask what to do about his 20-something, going on 12 female he is dealing with in his house and wanting to kick to the moon.  I shared with him, what I had been told 8 years earlier.  He just stared at me, "Really?"  Yeah, we are all quite clueless, thank Miss Manners.

Then, as I was part of the prayer team, a woman came up front, with exactly the same problems to discuss - in her life, in her daughter's life!  What are the odds of twice in the same morning?  So, we then, before we prayed, had exactly the same discussion!  Which brought forth quite a few other prayer items as well.

So, Miss Manner's, if you are still a reader, know that your wisdom - you shared with me, is in turn being used by many here in the greater Seattle area to hopefully heal families struggling in this cultural climate ...
