Strange things started happening around the Spook household. Things started disappearing, his boys quite literally went crazy (way beyond normal teenage bizarreness), someone shot his favorite dog, his brother-in-law came for a visit and drove his truck through the side of the house, his youngest son then set fire to the house, his uncle's favor was suddenly withdrawn and Spook's job suddenly went from 'fun' assignments to drudgery under micro manager! Yeah we are talking lots of weirdness.
So much weirdness in fact that I was of the strong opinion that the war for Spook's heart and family was far from over. Apparently, Satan was now on the attack. For those of you whom have battled evil, you know that it is never a one time attack - it is thousands of little things which have occurred in the past, which all build up to a grand finale - such as Spook was experiencing.
When it was all over, Spook's wife of almost 30 years had left him - running off with the drug dealer whom had been supplying her for years with cocaine. Someone had come in and logged his property when he was not there and in the process had used a dozer to cut a road for the trucks to haul off the logs and cut off the flow of the spring which feed his well. His oldest son, having gone into the military, ended up in prison. The two younger sons left him in hatred as their mother had left suddenly and without explanation, so obviously he was to blame. The house had to be sold in order to help with the defense cost for his oldest son. And so Spook, at fifty years old, suddenly found he was very much alone and with nothing - save his faith and his car.
